Cattle, Bison and Buffalo
Lost, Found & Stolen
Keepers must ensure that the information about animals on holding in the Service accurately reflects their physical location. If an animal goes missing or is stolen, the keeper needs to update the record so the animal is no longer counted as being on the holding.
Additionally, the keeper should ensure that no one else can report a movement for this specific animal.
If the keeper later locates the animal or realizes an error was made, they must be able to update the record to reflect that the animal has been found.
While not all species require this functionality, it is mandatory for cattle, buffalo, and bison to ensure that the animals' on-holding status in the Service is always accurate.
Only the keeper with access to the holding where the animal was last recorded can change the status. When reporting an animal as lost, stolen, or found, the date of the incident is required, and for stolen animals, a crime number must also be provided.
Submitting
Only a keeper with access to the holding where the animal was last recorded can submit a status change for the animal, indicating if it is lost, stolen, or found.
When reporting an animal as lost, stolen, or found, you must provide the relevant date of the incident. For stolen animals, a crime number is also required.
