Cattle, Bison and Buffalo

Submitting a Birth

The Service supports recording animal births, including multiple births such as twins, within a single submission. It is crucial to record all births from a single birthing event together in one submission. Separate submissions will be treated as distinct birthing events, potentially violating birthing rules (e.g., animals born to the same dam within an infeasible timeframe).

Key data to record includes:

  • Dam
  • Surrogate Dam (for embryo transfers)
  • Sire
  • Breed
  • Animal Number
  • Date of Birth (DOB)
  • Sex
  • Assistance during birth (if applicable)

An animal name is optional and can be used along with the production type for later filtering.

Animal numbers should correspond to printed tags that have not been previously used for a birth.

While not all species require birth reporting, it is mandatory for Cattle, Buffalo, and Bison. The required and optional fields may vary by species; additional details will be provided as other species are added to the platform.

For Cattle, Buffalo, and Bison, recording a birth triggers passport production. If the birth is recorded late, a Notice of Registration (NOR) will be produced.

The Service allows you to submit birth records for animals at any location you are authorized to access.
